Preparing for an IPO – presenting at the LSE’s ELITE conference

On Wednesday 29 November Hudson Sandler was delighted to be invited to present at the latest event of the London Stock Exchange’s ELITE programme. The programme helps fast-growing private companies prepare and structure for further growth, many of whom are considering a listing either on AIM or the Main Market within an 18-month time horizon.   The day consisted of a series of presentations given by professional advisers to help businesses understand the IPO process.

Hudson Sandler partners Charlie Jack and Dan de Belder presented our slot on IPO communications in two parts, with Charlie focusing on the pre-IPO phase and Dan on the aftermarket.   The audience was made up of exciting businesses, mainly CEOs and CFOs, from a wide variety of sectors including technology, manufacturing, retail, transport and support services.

Other speakers were Travers Smith on legal, Grant Thornton on accounting, Panmure Gordon on the market and valuation. The chairman of gear4music gave his insights on governance and building a board and Hargreave Hale provided the fund manager’s perspective.

In our section we focused on technical requirements, best practice, corporate materials, and investment in digital communications, as well as the benefits of engaging with PR at an early stage.  The feedback was uniformly positive with several noting that whilst they could handle their PR in-house on day-to-day matters, they were not sufficiently equipped with the knowledge and expertise to manage City communications.

The Q&A session was lively and continued over drinks at the end of the afternoon.  Overall it was a good discussion with senior business leaders about the role PR plays in a process that will at some stage be a huge milestone for them personally and their companies.

We were delighted to support ELITE’s 7th cohort and present alongside such an array of blue chip City firms.
