Moscow office powers ahead with investment in talent, ESG and technology

Moscow & London 30th April 2021:  Hudson Sandler, one of the world’s leading strategic communications and ESG consultancies, announces a series of strategic growth investments in its long-established Moscow office. These investments build on Hudson Sandler’s leadership in delivering international and domestic communications cut-through for its blue chip Russian clients and provide an enhanced platform to meet growing market opportunities to support Russian corporates.

Reflecting more buoyant Russian market activity, Hudson Sandler is engaged on a wide variety of fundraisings and is also advising Nova Resources B.V. on its offer for KAZ Minerals PLC as well as The Russian Direct Investment Fund (“RDIF”) globally on the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.

Widely experienced communications practitioner Ksenia Gundarova joins Hudson Sandler’s team and brings ten years’ experience in strategic communications, most recently as Director of External Relations at Sistema PJSCF.  Prior to this she was a Senior Consultant at FTI Consulting Russia where she specialised in the technology, transportation, banking and telecoms sectors whilst also working on multiple litigation situations.  She is a graduate of Boston University.

Highly regarded journalist Ilya Khrennikov joins Hudson Sandler after a 12-year career at Bloomberg’s Moscow bureau, where he covered the technology and retail sectors as well as multiple IPO & M&A transactions.  Prior to Bloomberg he was a journalist at Smart Money, Forbes and Vedomosti.  He is a graduate of Moscow State University.

In addition, Associate Partner Emily Dillon will be reassigned to Moscow.  Having taken a degree in Russian at Bristol University, she joined Hudson Sandler in 2015 and has supported a wide variety of Russian clients across capital markets and corporate communications, with a particular focus on ESG.

To accommodate our expanding local team, we have recently moved into new offices at the White Square Office Centre in Moscow.

As a global leader in sustainability communications, ‘HS Sustain’ advises many of the world’s leading companies on their ESG communications including some of Russia’s largest organisations.  Katerina Parker will provide this support through a new HS Sustain hub being established in the Moscow office as the local ‘go to’ source for international best practice.  As a result, Hudson Sandler’s clients will be able to draw directly on our comprehensive market leading ESG methodology and experience:

  • Analysis – detailed research into potential environmental and social risks, alongside opportunities, on the horizon for clients and the wider sector in which they operate;
  • Advisory – rigorous strategies including long-term goal setting, establishing milestones and roadmaps, and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals; and,
  • Activation – strategic communications programmes, targeting audiences and demonstrating our clients’ environmental and social stewardship.

Our proprietary ‘HS Insights’ platform has now been fully customised for Russian audiences and social media platforms, including across the regions. As a result, Hudson Sandler can now draw upon its 24/7 market research and real-time monitoring to ensure that its Russian centric insights and communications work responds to the most pertinent needs of stakeholder audiences while reflecting the broader local socio-economic, political and cultural environment.

Andrew Hayes, Managing Partner of Hudson Sandler LLP, said: “Our unique ‘One Team. One Culture. Diverse Thinking’ ethos including operating to a single P&L globally means we work with clients without borders or silos, able to join up talent from colleagues based in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa across disciplines.  We relish doubling down on our long-term investment in Russia, which is a key strategic market for us and one where we are proud to represent many of its leading businesses, whilst building bridges, locally and internationally.  Russian corporates are often world leaders in the application of technology and ESG to their business models and we will continue to help tell their stories and demonstrably add value at home and internationally.”

Maria Shiryaevskaya, Associate Partner and Head of Moscow Office, said: “I am thrilled to welcome Ksenia and Ilya to our Moscow team. They bring a wealth of expertise in Russia-orientated communications and media alongside our international relationships and share our passion for a culture built on collaboration and long-term partnerships.  I am confident they will make an outstanding contribution as we continue to deliver world-class creativity, strategic thinking and best-practice support for our Russian clients.”
